MoBus Solar Science Sustainability Lab
The MoBus Solar Science Sustainability Lab provides hands-on solar science and environmental sustainability experiences. This will include, but not be limited to: circuitry, solar cell technology, and the connection between energy and all living things. MoBus will also focus on sustainable practices to increase environmental awareness and knowledge. The interactive Lab will provide real-world learning experiences through hands-on project-based education that will help enable youth to think, create, problem-solve, and become life-long sustainable advocates.
The Lab will have the capability to accommodate a typical class size. The classes will be an hour in length and MoLab will be able to conduct up to 6 classes per day.
The cost for the first class is $250 and $100 for each additional class, plus $0.67 per mile, round trip. MoLab requires a minimum of 2 classes to book MoBus.
The Experience
Once at MoBus, students will receive an orientation outside that will provide them with an introduction to sustainability and solar power. They will also understand what to expect inside and will be provided with the MoBus rules of conduct.
Inside there will be two stations: the Sustainability Station and the FabLab
At the Sustainability Station, students will explore renewable energy and discover why solar energy is a good sustainable energy source for our region. They will receive an introduction to electricity and learn how a solar cell is engineered. Here students will create make-and-take activities to share with their parents at home.
In the FabLab, students will work collaboratively as they create, build, fabricate, problem-solve, test, re-test, and play. Students will delve more into the physics of electricity. They will become familiar with terms related to electricity as they participate in a series of hands-on experiments in solar science.
The science-to-go format allows MoLab to serve a broad, diverse audience over a large geographical region, both in rural and urban environments. MoLab’s effectiveness in serving science educators and students has no limits or boundaries. Although based out of Leon County the services and programs provided will positively impact a wide territory.
